Expanded TRICARE Benefits for Certain National Guard Members 2018

When responding to a State natural disaster, extended TRICARE coverage may be available to National Guard members and their families.

States, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia activate National Guard members to respond to State natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms and wildfires.

Now, National Guard members and their families may be eligible for extended TRICARE benefits when activated to respond to a natural disaster. These extended benefits are the same as those when called or ordered to active service for more than 30 days.





During an activation, look for a letter in milConnect about a change in your TRICARE coverage. Also be on the lookout for an email or a postcard from the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC).

The issuance or replacement of military service medals, awards and decorations must be requested in writing.

Requests should be submitted in writing to the appropriate military service branch division of the NPRC. Standard form (SF 180), available through the VA, is recommended to submit your request. Generally, there is no charge for medal or award replacements.
